The Pigipro ALFFcup system explained

The ALFFcup system is a feeding concept designed to provide additional milk to piglets alongside the sow’s milk. The number of cups installed in the farrowing crates does not have to match the number of farrowing crates. The system is also based on keeping all piglets in the same week group (and within the same farrowing department). The major advantage of keeping piglets in the same week group is reducing the risk of disease transmission between groups in the farrowing department.

The ALFFcup system is currently implemented in two ways by our customers in the Netherlands:

System 1: Two extra piglets per sow.
Install a cup in select farrowing crates, generally nearest to the entrance. For example, if there are two more piglets than functional teats, the system ensures additional milk is provided as needed.

System 2: 40 piglets per two sows.
Combine the extra piglets from two sows, with a maximum of 40 piglets per two sows. If the average litter size is 15 piglets, add 10 extra piglets to these two sows. These sows should be positioned next to each other, and the dividing sidewall between the farrowing crates should be removable. A minimum of two cups should be installed in these two crates, preferably four cups if possible.
